Giving CL the position of GD: YANG’s ultimate strategy

It has been a month since 2NE1 made their comeback. And their songs are still heating up the music world. Apart from topping Mnet’s M Countdown this week, the quartet is sweeping across music programs for weeks in a row. But that is not the end. They are scheduled to branch out to the world next month for their World Tour. International fans are very excited as well. So where does the girl group get such powerful energy from?

Sure, there are a number of sources. And one of them is the presence of CL. 2NE1 will showcase “IF I WERE YOU” on March 30 on SBS’s Inkigayo. This song from 2NE1’s latest full album is composed and written by CL. Amidst the harmony of melodic piano and unique string sounds, the heavy drum beats touch the hearts of the listeners.

When they appeared on KBS 2TV’s “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook” on March 21, they showcased the exact song for the very first time on TV for the curtain-call performance. The live performance led to a sensation where the Internet users uploaded the “MR-removed video” on various entertainment-related websites. Even the hard-to-please YOO HEE YEOL complimented the four divas.

CL’s own work becoming one of 2NE1’s major songs is quite significant. This can be linked to BIGBANG’s huge global success thanks to its leader G-DRAGON who is talented in both production and planning. Thus it is safe to say that 2NE1, whose leader shares similar talents and qualities with GD, successfully upgraded themselves in terms of their power and strength.

CEO YANG once told OSEN before 2NE1’s latest comeback, “It is just the beginning for 2NE1. In the upcoming album CL upgraded her musical talents by getting involved in composing and writing, and this will be an important asset for 2NE1 for the next 5 years.”

He backed his argument with BIGBANG, YG’s 9-year-old group. “BIGBANG solidified their brand and values by having such a talented music producer GD as the leader, along with the members who showcased dynamic solos.” YANG’s effort to pull out talents of planning and production, composing and writing from the musicians once again worked as the ultimate strategy for CL.

CL is also being recognized in the global pop market as 2NE1’s 2nd full album “CRUSH” broke the record of K-Pop by ranking within the top 200 on American Billboard while SKRILLEX’s album in which CL was involved ranked within the top 10 of Billboard 200. So it is no wonder her song “IF I WERE YOU” is showered in spotlights all over again.

10 HOT REASONS NOT TO MISS 2NE1’S AON CONCERT IN MANILA

In many of 2NE1’s music videos, you would see them wielding a bat. Later on, you will realize that they use this for crushing charts and breaking records. From the moment they debuted as a group in 2009, these formidable femmes – CL, Bom, Dara and Minzy -- have treated mediocrity with spite, choosing to blaze new trails in a music genre that was then dominated by four-letter words like “cute” and “sexy”. They wasted no time in creating a look, a vibe and a musical influence that was entirely their own – sharp, edgy, fierce and defiant. After sweeping scores of major awards from the Korean music industry, they flew to New York City where they were crowned MTV Iggy’s Best New Band in the World in 2011. The following year, they became the first K-Pop girl group to embark on a world tour, before promptly proceeding to do musical collaborations with the likes of will.i.am and Snoop Lion.

Things fell quiet in 2013 when they busied themselves wrapping up their second studio album and dropping a few singles that tickled but did not exactly tantalize. Then, boom – their agency, YG Entertainment, announced a second world tour scheduled to kick-off in Seoul by March 2014. And oh, that long overdue second album? It will drop a few days ahead on CL’s birthday, since she composed three of the tracks. What followed was absolute bedlam. Their fans – known collectively as Blackjacks – started dusting off their light sticks, printing new banners and pinching their allowance to purchase concert tickets, digital tracks and hard copies of the new album, “Crush”.

Meanwhile, the tour concert entitled “All or Nothing” (AON) caught people’s fancy with its sleek, sci-fi themed cinematic teasers and creative promotions that had the otherwise elusive girls appearing on variety shows, staging fan meets, hamming it up in their own YouTube videos and basically inundating their personal social media accounts with an enticing trail of photos and other sneak peeks leading to the show. To date, AON has announced 15 performances covering 12 cities in nine countries, with more stops still on the drawing board. However, the most important concert date for Filipinos falls on May 17, when 2NE1 brings AON to Manila at the Mall of Asia Arena. It has been three years since they first visited for a gig called “The Party” and this is the first time they are coming for a full concert, leaving their Pinoy fans breathless with anticipation.

To get a preview of what’s in store for us in May, this writer flew to Seoul to watch both nights of their AON launch at the Seoul SK Handball Arena. Despite the freezing post-winter weather, 2NE1 burned down the hall and everyone in it with the kind of frenzied conflagration only they can conjure. Here are some of the hottest reasons why watching AON is good for you, your friends and the entire human race:

    1. Dara’s goddess abs – In a word: yummy. You wouldn’t believe someone as seemingly frail as her could carve a four-pack but she did it in just two months, following a strict exercise and diet regimen which called for giving up her favorite ramyun and pumping iron every day under the eagle eyes of their company’s captain trainer. Undoubtedly, all the hard work paid off. The minute the girls step out onstage, those glorious abs are practically stamped as “Today’s Special”. So yes, I’d like a serving of Sandara Park’s scrumptious prime cuts served on a stretch of silky smooth, slightly tanned, honey gold skin… please!
    2. “EroMaknae” unleashed – The group’s recently legal Gong Minzy fires up the stage as she goes splittin’ and poppin’ and twerkin’ all night long. Discovered when she was only 11 and debuted as part of the awesome foursome at 15, this irrepressible dancing machine finally gets to throw off her shackles and show the world what the “ero” in her nickname “EroMaknae” really means. Everyone’s favorite baby sister does all those nasty moves you wouldn’t want your baby sister to do for 5,000 pairs of ogling eyes!
    3. CL drives everyone “men-boong” “Hot” does not even begin to describe charismatic leader Lee Chaerin (CL). Forget hot. She’s radioactive.
She begins her solo stage as The Baddest Female, descending like a mythical Valkyrie ready to send that screaming army of Blackjacks off to their noble deaths. Death by MTBD (mental breakdown). What follows is absolute carnage, ending with the slinky lionette sprawled on the ground, purring “How beautiful is this life? How painful is this life?” You will beg her to take you to Valhalla, pronto!
     4. Bom’s fabulous Terminator legs – She is not called the “living Barbie” for nothing. Park Bom’s interminable legs are the stuff legends are made of and every stage outfit she wears is designed to make sure no one forgets. The only thing that could probably stretch farther than her glorious limbs would be her remarkable vocal range. As my friend Gjie from Malaysia likes to say: “If electric companies generated power based on sexiness, Bom's legs would power an entire nation.” They truly deserve their own fandom.
    5. Fashionista fiesta –Hands down, 2NE1 is the most fashion forward girl group in the K-Pop music hemisphere. The girls are known to run around town garbed in the latest collection of iconic fashion houses like Chanel, Balmain, Saint Lauren, Givenchy, Versace, Balenciaga, Lanvin and other luxury brands, tastefully alternating or mixing them with the more progressive creations of up and coming talents from across Asia, Europe and the US. For the AON concert, the girls throw fashionistas a visual banquet as they romp onstage in funky glam fashion by Jeremy Scott (Moschino’s new design chief, CL’s bestie and a hardcore supporter of the group), SAM MC London, Ground-Zero, Cassette Playa, Ashish, Rick Owens x Adidas, Adidas Originals (where they are international brand models), among other distinctive labels. For a dash of flash, check out their Versace, Chrome Hearts and Ambush bling-blings that shine brighter than your future.
    6. Is this lap taken? – I hear you. “They’re doing whaaat???” Sexy is not usually a word associated with 2NE1 but what the heck – they’ll give lap dancing a try just for the fun of it. Four unsuspecting gentlemen are escorted onstage to join the girls for some schmexy time. It only lasts for a minute or two but this portion never fails to send the entire stadium rumbling with a collective “noooooohhhhhh” from the shocked and pretty much possessive crowd. Jealous much?
    7. Jaw-dropping male dancers – YG Entertainment’s resident male dancers, Hi-Tech, actually have their own fan clubs. I kid you not. These strapping, agile and stylish young men have become celebrities in their own right, particularly the forever shirtless Kwon twins -- Dony and Deukkie -- who have thousands of followers on their social media accounts. Check them out. Every other girl has.
    8. Travis Payne at the helm – Multi-awarded American choreographer, director and producer Travis Payne joins 2NE1 on a world tour for the second time. Known for his close association with the late great Michael Jackson, Payne has also designed unforgettable moves for such high profile artists as Madonna,Sting,Lenny Kravitz, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Britney Spears, Usher, Lady Gaga, Nicole Scherzinger and Beyoncé. As director and lead choreographer of AON, he and longtime associate Stacy Walker give the girls an upgraded image that is more daring and mature, but without losing their signature fierce and feisty appeal.

9. Magnificent stage presence – If you think they sound incredible in their albums, wait ‘til you watch them onstage. One concert is all it takes for you to realize why they are the undisputed queens of live performance. How four tiny Asian girls can mesmerize an entire arena with their boundless energy, powerful choreography and impeccable live singing will astound you. As they go seamlessly through a lineup of 20 songs that range from pop, hip-hop and reggae, to R & B, rock and a little head-banging metal, you wonder how they even manage two or three encore numbers while smiling, dancing, jumping and doing fan service all over the place. The stage is their playground as they constantly prod the crowd to stand up and go crazy with them with their familiar battle cry: “Nolza!” Let it be known that every 2NE1 concert is a non-stop party, so please leave your stilettos at home.

10. Chart-topping music – Saving the best for last, the hottest reason why you shouldn’t miss AON in Manila is because you get to hear those smashing tracks from their newest album “Crush”, which set the new US Billboard record for the highest charting, best selling K-Pop album only 72 hours after it was released. “Crush” opened at the 61st slot on US Billboard 200, with all ten tracks dominating the Top 40 slots of its K-Pop Top 100. Now on its third week, “Crush” is still doing well, sitting comfortably at Number 6 on the World Albums chart. Domestically, its title track, “Come Back Home”, went straight to the top spot of all Korean music charts within eight hours of digital release, as well as topping the iTunes charts in over a dozen countries, including the Philippines. Aside from their latest hits, expect remixed versions of their previous knockouts like “I Am the Best”, “Can’t Nobody”, “I Don’t Care”, “Ugly”… you know the drill.

And because May 17 marks exactly five years since 2NE1’s debut, expect loads of anniversary surprises from their adoring Blackjacks, not only from the Philippines but also from all over the world. This early, international fan sites have been busy making plans to join in the celebration and send representatives to cover the event. And for this special occasion, Dara – still the self-proclaimed pambansang krung-krung ng Pilipinas – has hinted to this writer that she might just concede to a “special number” exclusively for the Manila show if the fans request for it. In fact, she might even ask the three other girls to join in. What is this special treat? You won’t know unless you’re watching. So are you in -- or out?

2NE1 talk about 'Come Back Home' + perform a sexy dance on 'Sketchbook'

2NE1 took part in a recording of KBS 2TV's 'Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook' and talked about how they came to choose "Come Back Home" as their title track.

MC Yoo Hee Yeol asked the girls, "The title 'Come Back Home' makes me think of Seo Taiji and Boys' 'Come Back Home.'  Was this influenced by Yang Hyun Suk?" as the YG chief used to be a part of the legendary group.  The 2NE1 members confirmed this to be correct.

Leader CL said, "Chief Yang Hyun Suk made the choreography for the first time during Seo Taiji and Boys for their song 'Come Back Home' and he personally made the choreography for 2NE1 for the first time for the very same song."

Also on this show, all the members did a sexy dance to their song "I Love You" and Yoo Hee Yeol said this was the most memorable moment during the 6 years of his show!

CL says it is nice to be compared to Girls' Generation + talks about her music

2NE1 took part in a recording for the upcoming episode of KBS 2TV's 'Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook' and talked about being compared to Girls' Generation.

In relation to their closely timed comebacks, CL said, "It was coincidental that our comeback period overlapped with Girls' Generation's.  Seeing as how we were promoting at the same time, many questions and articles comparing the two groups came out, but it is a good feeling to be compared to Girls' Generation, who is our senior by two years."

She added, "Most girl groups can't promote for that long, but it is really cool to see Girls' Generation be active for a long time and I think I can learn a lot from them."

She also addressed the fact that her personally composed songs were included in the girls' second album.  She said, "I did music with an 'ignorant confidence' deriving from not knowing music because I feared that knowing it too well would break the large fantasy I had regarding it.  However, during our hiatus, I started to write my feelings of frustration in English because they were things I wanted to say--my purpose was not for anyone to hear my words, though."

However, Yang Hyun Suk saw her lyrics, changed them to Korean, and offered to put them in the new album.  The members said, "CL knows each of our voices very well so she allocated the parts we would want by herself and wrote songs that matched well with the members' personalities."

The episode will air on March 22 12:20 AM KST!

They were asked, "These days, a lot of girl groups are doing the sexy concept, but 2NE1's not doing it because they can't?"

Park Bom said in a jokingly angry way, "What are you talking about?  We're so sexy," while Dara said with sadness, "We're doing it right now," proving that 2NE1's charms and sexiness may be a bit more subtle and unique!

In addition, they were asked what kind of love they wanted to try and Park Bom said, "I don't want to get married right now."

2NE1 bemoans their single status

With more and more idols coming out of the woodwork in regards to dating, the ladies of 2NE1 confessed that they were getting lonelier.

"We are most definitely falling behind," they joked during a recent press conference for their second full album, 'Crush'.

"There are a lot of oppas at our company, but I don't think it's all good to be so close to them," CL said. "There's the feeling of 'we shouldn't be doing this', and they tend to see us as sisters. I don't think the member unnies are dating because they never go outside."

As the one of the oldest members in the group, Dara was particularly worried. "I was worrying seriously, but now, my boss and the company seniors are more worried about it than me," she said. "I need to make them feel at ease soon..."

Do you have any recommendations for how 2NE1 can get out of their dating slump?

Yang Hyun Suk shares his thoughts on the competition between 2NE1 and Girls' Generation

Yang Hyun Suk shared that 2NE1 and Girls' Generation's comebacks at the same time were of help to both groups.

On the March 15 broadcast of KBS 2TV's 'Entertainment Relay', 2NE1 sat down for an interview through which CL shared, "'Come Back Home' is a meaningful song because our CEO performed a song titled 'Come Back Home' during his Seo Taiji and Boys days."

Their CEO Yang Hyun Suk was also interviewed and asked, "I heard that you participated in making the choreography [for 'Come Back Home']. Is that true?" Yang Hyun Suk shared, "If you listen to 'Come Back Home', you can't help but think about Seo Taiji and Boys' 'Come Back Home'. So the choreographer and 2NE1 members thought it would be nice if their CEO, who made the choreography for the original 'Come Back Home', helped out and an idea came to me so I helped out."

Yang Hyun Suk also opened up about the girl group battle between 2NE1 and Girls' Generation, sharing, "It was a time when 2NE1 needed to release an album and by coincidence, Girls' Generation also made a comeback. I think of it as a competition in good faith and I think it is a period that is helping both groups."

When asked, "When you compare 2NE1 to Girls' Generation, what do you think 2NE1 is better at?" Yang Hyun Suk shared, "CL participated in the writing and composing this time and their music colors are different so rather than feeling like this album was a success among the public, I thought to myself that we can keep going further [with their potential]."

2NE1 dish on their new album, overlapping promotion with Girls' Generation, dating, and second world tour

To commemorate their return with their first full length album in 4 years, the ladies of 2NE1 sat down for an interview with reporters about their comeback with 'CRUSH' to open up about the thoughts going through their heads.

The girls have already racked up quite the success with their album release, topping not only domestic charts but international ones as well, and making their mark as the highest charting K-Pop album on the Billboard 200 - a well-deserved result.

"It is our first full length album in 4 years, and different from our 1st album it contains completely new songs so it feels as if we actually put out our first full length album now. We are really enjoying the fact that we can show you a lot of new songs and stages, so we've been able to quench our thirst that has been building up as there is a lot that we've been wanting to show you. When we had our first world tour, we felt some regret as there was no new music to show on stage. So to make our comeback with a full length album, we feel happy," the girls said.

As this new album contains quite a few works that have a direct hand of participation from CL, she stated, "I started composing last year. I really never imagined 2NE1 as a whole would sing the songs I made. It started when I just wrote songs as if I was writing a diary. I am grateful as well fascinated that it all progressed so naturally and fast. There are more songs that I have written up, but the songs that matched the best with 2NE1 were included in this album. It was something I started just for fun, but Yang Hyun Suk boss even diligently checked up on it. 'CRUSH' was the title of the song I wrote, but he even made it into the name of the album, so I was really touched."

The interview of course also addressed the girls' competition with Girls' Generation for it's not everyday when the biggest two girl groups in Korea have their promotional periods overlap.

The girls remarked, "Starting a year ago, we had the world tour scheduled for March, and to be able to show new music stages on the tour, we had originally planned for a comeback at the end of February. As Girls' Generation are our sunbaenims, it's so cool to see them actively promote in various fields for a long time. We want to be like that too. Rather than comparing or calling it a competition, we sincerely cheer on the power of girl groups. We want to see a lot of these groups and see us all do well together. As our promotions are overlapping, we saw their stage and felt that our colors and Girls' Generation colors are different. They are showing a stage that we can't do."

Reporters also brought up the question of dating for 2NE1 as a few of Girls' Generation members have gone public with their relationships this year.

CL said with a smile, "And it's White Day today too... We recognize that we're quite behind in the dating aspect compared to Girls' Generation." Dara hilariously added, "Let's try to catch up!" while Park Bom lamented, "It seems like there just isn't much opportunity to date."

Whether you're a Blackjack or not, it's hard to deny that 2NE1 has individuality in the Kpop scene with their distinct music style. And reporters asked the girls if they felt the same way and to elaborate on 2NE1's unique style.

"We don't think there will be a group quite like 2NE1. There wasn't one before and we don't think there will be one like us. Whether people consider 2NE1 good or bad, we can say confidently that there is no group like us. If our color was red for example, if we tried to be blue instead, we'd feel a burden and we wouldn't be able to last. If we are red, then we have to express that red more vibrantly," the girls replied.

So what is 2NE1's ultimate goal for the future? "We don't know what it would be. Whether it's a time of growth or a time of risk, it seems like they just suddenly come upon us without us expecting it. Whatever it is, we think it is most important that we take it moment by moment and get through it. We finally think we have figured out how to sing and enjoy the stage. We want to do this for a long long time. And since we don't come out on TV that often and don't have many opportunities to interact with everyone, we want to express 2NE1 news, thoughts, and hearts through interviews at least."

The girls also spoke on their love for concerts with their second world tour ahead of them. "We have won #1 on music programs and experienced various other things, but there is nothing more fun than a concert. Our goal is to wrap up our second world tour in Korea as an encore concert. People will only come if we promote our hardest with 'Crush' right? We want to meet with many fans at our concerts," the group said with a smile.

It seems like the girls aren't the only ones excited for their world tour as their music video for "Come Back Home" has already surpassed the 5 million mark with eager Blackjacks showing their support as they count down to the days they'll be able to catch the 2NE1 in concert!

CL clarifies that she is not the next muse for Psy's upcoming music video

CL denied the reports that labeled her as the next muse for Psy's music video following HyunA and Ga in.

CL shared that although she does make a cameo, she cannot be labeled as the next female muse for Psy's video, commenting, "I am not a muse... To be honest, I did not go to the filming set to see Psy. I performed with Snoop Dogg before and we got close so before he headed over to Korea, he said we should meet up when he gets here. Because there isn't an occasion to meet up with him separately, I went to visit him on the music video filming set."

"We were talking and I came so unprepared at the time. But he asked me, 'Do you want to dance with me?', so that's how I came to make an appearance in it, and it is a very short cameo."

Whether she is the muse or not, Blackjacks can look forward to her cameo on Psy's music video!

Yoo In Na confesses even she gets starstruck by her labelmates Big Bang and 2NE1

Yoo In Na confessed she gets starstruck at her YG Entertainment labelmates Big Bang and 2NE1 as a fan.''

During a recent interview with Ilgan Sports, when asked if she meets up with her labelmates often, Yoo In Na shared, "Since we all have a lot of schedules, it isn't easy for us to meet up. I like Big Bang and 2NE1 as a fan. I am repeatedly listening to 2NE1's CD in the car these days. If I happen to meet up with the members at the YG cafeteria, I get amazed. YG used to be mainly a singer agency but our count of actors have increased these days so it gives me strength. Although we can't meet often, I became close friends with Dara. Everyone knows Dara as a '4D girl' but she also has a side of her that isn't like that at all. She just has a lot of determination when it comes to variety shows."

Yoo In Na also revealed how often she talks with her CEO Yang Hyun Suk"I don't think I've had a lot of opportunities to meet and talk with [Yang Hyun Suk] as much as I thought. He does call me once in a while. He starts the conversation, saying, 'What are you up to these days?'. Even though he obviously knows that I am filming a drama. He advises me to work hard and well which gives me strength."

2NE1 Discloses Performance of “GOTTA BE YOU”, One of Double Titles of New Album, This Week

Girl group 2NE1 discloses the performance of “GOTTA BE YOU”, one of double title tracks of their new album, for the first time on TV this week.

2NE1 kicked off TV appearance by performing “CRUSH” and “COME BACK HOME” in SBS “INKIGAYO” on the 9. Now, 2NE1 is to show a new appeal by performing “GOTTA BE YOU”, one of the double titles, this week.

“GOTTA BE YOU” was co-produced by YG producer TEDDY and PK. This light-tempo song has a popular appeal which especially comes from the strong impression created by the main part’s melody where MINZY and BOM cry ‘GOTTA BE YOU’. The song was selected as one of the double title tracks of 2NE1’s new album along with “COME BACK HOME”, for such an appeal.

After the release of 2NE1’s second full-length album on the 27 last month, they have been proving a big popularity by sweeping No.1 places in major music-streaming websites, as well as by making ten songs in their new album take top ten places in charts at the same time. As of today (12), two weeks after the disclosure of the new songs, “COME BACK HOME” and “GOTTA BE YOU” are still in the second and third places in the chart of Korea’s biggest music website Melon, proving a continuing popularity.

Even though a flood of new songs are poured into the music market every day, 2NE1 is creating multiple hits from one album simultaneously, which is a very rare case for a girl group. This confirms 2NE1’s status as Korea’s leading girl group.

“COME BACK HOME” also drew a big attention when its music video was disclosed and 2NE1 presented the song’s performance with the choreography directly created by YG’s head Yang Hyun Suk for 2NE1.

The performance of “GOTTA BE YOU” is to be first disclosed on TV this week and its music video has not been released yet. However, the song is creating a big sensation, so fans are all the more looking forward to seeing the performance of the song.

What choreography and style 2NE1 will show on the TV stage of “GOTTA BE YOU”, following the performance of “CRUSH” and “COME BACK HOME” disclosed last week, is exciting fans now.

2NE1 throws away other “sexy” girl groups!

2NE1 has a firm standing in the K-POP world. Their songs are based on African-American music, they have their own characteristics, and that is why they are popular in and outside the country. 2NE1 is different from other girl groups which are either cute or sexy.

2NE1’s newly-released second album “Crush” is gaining much popularity among fans. It not only topped various music charts in Korea, but it also was included in the Billboard Charts, which is called the “Dream chart” among musicians. 2NE1 also started a world tour in 12 cities of 9 countries, and they are estimated to engage more than 200,000 fans. 2NE1’s popularity knows no end. What is the driving force behind all this popularity?

2NE1’s success story: 2NE1 made its debut in May. 2009 with their single album “Fire.” In 2010, their first mini album’s title song “I Don’t Care” made a hit and it gave 2NE1 an unwavering standing. Ever since, 2NE1 has been named with the girl group “Girls’ Generation” as representative K-POP groups.

With the release of the second album, it seems that 2NE1 is becoming more powerful. 2NE1 easily won the competition against Girls’ Generation, which released its new song around the time 2NE1 did. 2NE1’s album ranked 61 in the U.S. Billboard Album Chart, “Billboard 200” on Mar. 5. This is much better than that of “Twinkle”, the mini album by a unit of Girls’ Generation, “Taetiseo,” whose best ranking was 126. In the Single Chart “Hot 100,” Psy’s “Gangnam Style” ranked as high as 2, but 2NE1’s is the first time that a K-POP singer made into 100 in the “Billboard 200.”

Overseas media are applauding the results. Billboard praised “COME BACK HOME,” the title song of 2NE1’s second album, as being an explosive new song with the combination of various genres. The U.S. music channel Fuse TV and the music magazine SPIN have also given spotlight to 2NE1’s new album with keen interest.

A director of a record company said, “I am not really sure about the charms of each member. But their music does seem ‘high-level.’ They are different from other girl groups who only want to appeal their sexy side.”

2NE1, where is your end? In 2014, there already has been many impressive points in 2NE1’s work. They are proving to be more “global” than other K-POP groups. For instance, in Jan., 2NE1 appeared in ABC’s reality program “THE BACHELOR,” which is broadcast across the nation. In Mar. 11, when reports about CL and G-Dragon partnering with a famous U.S. musician Skrillex were released, it aroused great interest.

Korean music critic Gang Tae-gyu said, “Most girl groups tend to show off their looks, so it’s hard for them to refresh their image after some time.” He added, “But 2NE1 is focused more on the music rather than looks, so they will probably long-run. Their competitiveness in the global market will rise.”
