Dara gives a lucky fanboy a kiss on the cheek!

On July 28th, Dara drove her fans wild after planting a kiss on a fanboy’s cheek during the group’s latest concert.

Held at the Seoul Olympic Park Gynmastics Stadium, 2NE1 opened their ‘New Evolution‘ World tour, performing their past hits as well as special solo performances by the members.

But once it was Dara’s turn to perform solo, the singer suddenly announced, “I’m known to have a fresh image, but I’m actually a wild woman. For a sexy performance today, I’m going to bring a male audience onto the stage.”

To this, all the male audience members began frantically waving their arms in order to grab the attention of the singer. However, Dara remarked, “I’m being attracted to head towards area 4 today,” and after scanning the crowd, the singer pointed at a foreign fan saying, “I’ll pick that person. White t-shirt. Yes, you. Come onto the stage.

With the lucky fan seated in a chair, Dara began performing her 2009 hit single ‘Kiss‘. The idol then made an unexpected move by giving the guest a peck on the cheek, leaving a prominent lipstick stain and causing onlookers to scream with jealousy.

In releated news, 2NE1 will be continuing their World tour by heading to the States on August 17th to perform in New Jersey and California. The ladies will then be flying to Japan on September 1st to perform in various cities like Osaka, Nagoya, and Yokohama.

Trend Alert 2012: Crayon-Colored Hair!

While brightly-hued hair is nothing new, Hyosung‘s purple, Jia‘s pink, Park Bom‘s red, and Key‘s rainbow stripes won’t be forgotten any time soon. But since all trends eventually do ‘fade out’, here’s a quick re-cap of the idols who have attempted the crayon-colored hairstyles!
February - March

Big Bang kicked things off in February when photos from their New York filming locations were unveiled, which revealed their new colorful hairstyles. T.O.P‘s icy blue was a real dye job, while G Dragon‘s colors were all extentions he could swap out on a whim. And boy did he swap them out!  Between the little pieces he wore under hats and the longer pieces he wore to create his “seaweed” look, he kept us all guessing. Meanwhile, rookie group SPICA‘s Kim Boa impressed with her sophisticated red color. In March, B1A4 came back with a new, mature image, and Jinyoung brought his own shade of red.
April

U-KISS‘ Kiseop jumped on the red hair bandwagon in April, while B.A.P‘s Zelo and Super Junior‘s Eunhyuk brought us some pastel pink. T.O.P, still blue-haired, brought his own version of hot pink- in his eyebrows, while U-KISS’ AJ did some white-painted eyebrows, along with putting bright pink streaks in his new, cropped hairstyle. B.A.P’s Yong Guk tried out purple hair with black bangs, while bandmate Daehyun opted for a pale lavender.
May

In May, we saw even more red. Girls’ Generation‘s Tiffany looked absolutely fabulous with her new ‘do for her TaeTiSeo promotions, while G Dragon’s bright red, 5:5-style hair wasn’t a fan favorite. It looked great as a mohawk in the video for “Monster“, but didn’t do him any favors when he wore it down with a center part. G.NA brought in a richer shade of pink than we’d seen so far, while Lime of rookie group Hello Venus introduced a minty green into the mix. JB of rookie duo JJ Project showed off a variety of bright colors in his bangs in the video for”Bounce“.
July

Jo Kwon has been going back and forth between mint blue and black in his promotions for “I’m Da One” and “Animal“. After letting his red fade, G Dragon was blonde for a little while before adopting a cotton-candy pink color. Shindong of Super Junior has also gone for a soft pink, but only in his bangs. Dara is taking full advantage of her half-shaved hairdo, using brightly colored extentions that she can change whenever she wants. Upcoming rookie group EvoL is in on the dyed hair action as well, with Say‘s half red/half blonde style, while bandmate Jucy has gone for a bright orange.
What do you think of all these crazy colors?

What is the #1 song contestants chose for ‘Superstar K4′ auditions in Australia?

On July 15th, Mnet‘s ‘Superstar K4‘ held its preliminary round of auditions at the SMC Conference & Function Centre in Sydney, Australia. After the auditions concluded, it was found that among the thousand or so contestants, 2NE1‘s “Lonely” was the most popular song to perform.

A representative from the program commented, “During the preliminary rounds, since we give missions based on mostly Korean songs, there were a lot of contestants in Australia who chose K-pop for their auditions.” He added, ”Among these participants, the song that was [performed] the most was 2NE1′s ‘Lonely’.

He also discussed his impression of overseas auditions: “Perhaps it’s because of K-pop fever spreading across the world, but there were many people from abroad auditioning with songs by idols. It was to the point where it was hard to tell whether this was Korea or Australia just by listening to the songs.

‘Superstar K4′ producer Kim Tae Eun stated, “Whenever preliminary rounds are held abroad, it’s fun to see a great diversity of participants audition and to compare the different countries’ musical styles and techniques by watching the individual performances.

Back in April, ‘Superstar K4′ launched their auditions in the Jeju area, before proceeding on to seven other cities in South Korea, and abroad in New York and Los Angeles. ‘Superstar K4′, which is continuing its hunt for more diverse contestants, will start airing on August 17th at 11 PM KST.

2NE1 talks about their comeback, their lifted dating ban, and more in recent interview!

Girl group 2NE1 has returned. Always becoming a hot issue with their unconventional music, style, and performances, the public had high expectations this time around as well and the ladies did not disappoint. With their new title song “I Love You“, 2NE1 became the first girl group to sing a ‘trot’-integrated electronic pop song, and member Sandara Park (Dara) even shaved half of her hair.

We are always working to try new things,” the girls said. “We feel that because trot is integrated into the song, it should be easy to sing along for fans of all ages.”

There’s some good news for eldest members Sandara Park and Park Bom (Bom) as well. YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk has finally lifted their dating ban. “Park Bom and I are now free to date,” Dara said. “However, we are refraining from dating in order to self-regulates ourselves. I don’t know if guys will approach me, now that I’ve shaved my head.”

The half-shaved hairstyle is a decision that probably did not come easy for her. It is a provocative and risky move for a girl group member, so much that she is concerned that it will impact her dating life. “It was CL‘s idea, and we shaved it at the office while rehearsing one day,” Dara explained. “I experienced a buzzer for the first time, and I began to cry. I began to understand how guys must feel when they enter the military.”

It makes one wonder why CL would suggest such a thing to Dara. “It was a style I wanted to try, but it was too much,” CL explained with a laugh. “Styles like that need to be done by the prettiest member, if I had done it, it would have made me look too intimidating.”

2NE1 continuously ran into some trouble with a particular broadcast company. They would perform once a week, and only at SBSInkigayo‘. Yang Hyun Suk explained that it was because much time is needed to prepare a show for his artists, however, it was a disappointment for the fans who wanted to see more of the members.

CL remarked, “To be honest, we work hard to prepare the highest quality stage with our choreography and ensemble, so we aren’t able to perform 3-4 times a week. Because we want to thoroughly prepare ourselves for each stage, we ended up performing only once a week.”

The girls who climbed the charts last year with songs such as “Lonely“, “I Am The Best“, and more are also receiving much support for their new song “I Love You” which has also swept the online music charts. Furthermore, the girls will be embarking on a 7-country, 10-city ‘New Evolution‘ tour starting with a performance at the Seoul Olympic Park Gymnastic Stadium July 28th and 29th. Michael Jackson‘s choreographer Travis Payne and Beyonce‘s band leader Divinity Roxx will be accompanying the girls on this particular tour.

Like so, Bom, Minzy, Dara, and CL are currently receiving world-wide attention. When will the girls finally throw in the towel?

CL remarked, “We will probably flee the scene before 2NE1′s style or music stops being fresh and people grow tired of it. If we are no longer challenging people, then I don’t want to do music.”

YG Entertainment issues an apology for the use of animals on 2NE1′s comeback stage

2NE1 recently made a fierce comeback with “I Love You” on SBS‘s ‘Inkigayo‘, however, the group has received some controversy for utilizing live animals on their comeback stage.

On the July 8th broadcast of ‘Inkigayo’, 2NE1 surprised viewers by stepping onto their comeback stage with a live parrot on CL‘s shoulder and swans in the background. Although the performance impressed some viewers, their use of animals on stage also sparked an outrage amongst animal lovers.

Even chief editor Kim Hyun Sung of fashion and culture magazine OhBoy! shared his thoughts regarding their comeback stage via Twitter stating, “I see that 2NE1 utilized swans and a parrot as props. They’re a very talented group who makes great music, but I hope they don’t do this again for their next stage.” He explained that the heat of the stage lights as well as an unfamiliar environment can cause animals to become distressed.

YG Entertainment has issued an apology regarding the controversary stating, “The stage was held after receiving consultation from animal experts and trainers who participated in putting together 2NE1′s stage performance. We worked to create a good performance, but if our efforts brought discomfort to viewers, we sincerely apologize. We will be sure to be more cautious in the future.”

MANILA, Philippines – K-pop quintet 2NE1 released their new single “I Love You,” on July 5, marking the group’s comeback to the music scene.

The song immediately topped various music charts in Korea including Daum Music, Bugs, Melon and Mnet.
On iTunes, “I Love You” entered the Top 10 Electronic Songs chart in 12 countries. It zoomed to No. 1 in Canada, Finland and Sweden.

The single is No. 2 in the US, No. 5 in the United Kingdom, No. 4 in Australia, No. 10 in Austria, No. 6 in Italy, No. 3 in The Netherlands, No. 4 in New Zealand, No. 2 in Norway and No. 3 in Spain.

SPIN’s Christopher Weingarten described 2NE1 as “K-pop heroes.”

“We love them. Well yesterday they dropped their most recent single 'I Love You' and it's a stone doozy, a perfect summation of pop's present and future: those Guetta-style soccer-riot synths glowing and pulsing, ghostly background vocals creating smoke around the neon, and a stuttering Ke$ha-gone-‘Stay Fly’ rap in English,” the post said.

Last December, SPIN magazine chose 2NE1’s second mini-album as one of the “20 Best Pop Albums of 2011.”

2NE1’s “Ugly” and “I Am the Best” were also included in SPIN’s “21 Greatest K-Pop Songs of All Time” last June.

The K-pop group will also release English and Japanese versions of “I Love You” for their international fans, according to Korean media.

2NE1 are preparing for their “New Evolution: 2NE1 Global Tour,” which will kick off on July 28 and 29 at the Olympics Gymnastics Hall in Seoul.

Dara reveals she shed tears as she shaved her head for her comeback transformation!

Dara revealed that she shed tears as she shaved the side of her head for her dramatic hairstyle change.

During an interview held at YG Entertainment‘s headquarters, Dara stated “When I was getting my head shaved, the feeling of sorrow just crept up and I started tearing… I just did it without thinking through it for we decided that a new transformation was needed while in the midst of rehearsing. It was my first time getting my head shaved and I thought to myself that maybe this is how men who shave their heads to go off to the military feel.

CL added, “At first, the stylist unni told me to do it. I was going to do it at first but I just couldn’t get myself to go through with it. Seeing Dara unni cry, my heart was heavy… I was going to do it at first, but I was scared of looking too strong so I had nominated the pretty Dara unni.”

Despite shedding tears the first time, Dara revealed that shaving her head no longer bothers her. “My hair grows fast, so this is already the third time I’ve had to get it shaved. Now I don’t have any lingering emotions about it.

2NE1, “We will never stop reinventing ourselves”!

2NE1 has always been a daring group. Whether it be their visual aesthetics to their musical colors, the four ladies have been unstoppable when it comes to pushing boundaries, meriting fashion and music to produce their own style.

Just over three years ago, the girls were introduced to the music scene at a time where the cute and sexy concepts were set as marketing trends by many agencies. However, 2NE1 stood out and begged to differ.
The girls strived to show that girl groups don’t always have to cater to male listeners, that the message of independence and empowerment can and should be delivered to the mainstream audience. But most importantly, they wanted to show that a girl group is more than capable of stepping out of the usual girl group mold of K-Pop: they wanted to stand out.

Taking hip-hop as the main core, 2NE1‘s music has changed throughout the years. Whether it be the minimal, gothic ballad number “It Hurts,” to the club-banger “I Am the Best,” the girls are back once again with the challenge to reinvent themselves with a new look and a new style of music.

The release of “I Love You” is a brand new step for the girls. Producer Teddy Park tells that the song went through a long process of tweaking until it was deemed fit for the mainstream audience.

The song, at first, had a very heavy “trot” feeling. If you compare the song to what it sounded like at the very start, you wouldn’t be able to tell that it was the same song,” says leader CL, “We had to keep on changing it to make it a little more radio friendly.

However the song, to the girls, still sounds foreign. “Well, we call it a hybrid of electropop,” continued CL, “The song might be a little more familiar to our Japanese listeners because it takes the mold of the traditional “enka” genre. Our international fans may find the sound on the song as something new and refreshing.
For 2NE1, their new single holds another important motive that steps off the territory of musical innovation and fashion. The girls stated that they wanted to give their international fans a little taste of the Korean culture. From the modernized hanbok to the Samgomu dance (traditional Korean drum dance) in “I Am the Best,” the girls continue their attempt to incorporate little elements of Korea into their performance and videos.

For 2NE1, the look is just as important as the music. A new single means a complete make over for the girls, and as expected, 2NE1 has brought forth a newer, exciting and, of course, shocking look. Member Dara showcased her “half-shaven” hair do, a rather uncommon choice of style, especially for a girl group member. Dara has always been credited as the experimental member having gone through a wide selection of wacky hairstyles in the past.

I think I keep going for different looks because, to be quite frank, I think I lack the charisma and individual charm that the other members have,” confesses Dara, “I gain a lot more confidence as a performer when I go for more experimental styles.

I don’t know if this half-shaven look is shocking enough,” continues Dara with a laugh, “I think I should have gone for something a little more stronger!

Much like 2NE1’s promotion cycles in the past, they will yet again be promoting various songs, one by one, to support the record. “I Love You” will serve as their single for the pop lovers, while they will be releasing an urban single to satisfy the cravings of their more hip-hop inclined fans.

For 2NE1, 2012 will be a fresh new start. They will not just be promoting in their home turf, but overseas as well. The girls recently announced their world tour, a first for a girl group in the history of Korean pop music. Kicking off at Seoul’s Olympic Stadium, the tour will make stops at 7 countries. The show is the end product of collaborating with various choreographers and directors: Travis Payne, famed for working with Michael Jackson, and Beyonce’s tour director of music Divinity Roxx are just to name a few. “The most exciting time for a artist is when going on tour,” says CL, “Now I know why artists crave to be on stage; it’s just such an amazing experience.
Meanwhile, 2NE1 will be releasing an English version of “I Love You,” especially made for their international fans. They have also shown interest in returning to the Japanese industry once more. “We feel as if we haven’t had a proper chance to get to know our international fans that well,” says 2NE1, “Hopefully we will be able to change that with the start of our tour.”

There is no such thing as the ’2NE1 style.’ We’re not a group that will stick to one color,” concludes CL, “Predictability and normalcy; it’s all so boring, isn’t it? We will never stop reinventing ourselves; we’ll always be the group with no boundaries, no limits and no answers.
