When will 2NE1 make a comeback?

FROM YG – 2013.6.18.

Hello, everyone. This is Yang Hyun Suk.
It has been a long time since I said hello to you though FROM YG. The reason why I am writing FROM YG
after such a long time is to tell all of you fans out there, the hottest news on the new albums of YG singers
which are set to be released after July. What’s more, a new YG girl group will be releasing their debut album
after four years of preparation. It has been such a long time since I last wrote FROM YG so I have a lot to say.
To give you an full update on what`s new, I will be writing several FROM YGs from now on. In order to make things simple,
I am going tell you what`s happening in YG by answering some questions. I hope you excuse me for using the Q&A format.

When will 2NE1 make a comeback?
Since their debut, 2NE1 has rocked the charts with numerous hit songs year after year. Just to name a few,
in 2009, ‘Fire’ , ‘I Don’t Care’
in 2010, ‘Can’t Nobody’, ‘Go Away’, ‘Clap Your Hands’
in 2011, ‘I am the Best’, ‘Lonely’ and ‘UGLY’.
However, in 2012, the fans were not able to see much of 2NE1 because of their tight world tour schedule.
‘I LOVE YOU’ was the one and only song that 2NE1 released in 2012.
2NE1 is always eager to meet the fans. So rather than releasing all the new songs that 2NE1 prepared
during the last two years in just one album, 2NE1 is planning to release the songs plus music videos
one a month until the end of this year.

2NE1 new title song will be released in early July, followed by other new tracks in August and September.
In October, we are planning to showcase a mini-album or the official second album of 2NE1.
So, 2NE1 will be promoting at least four tracks from July to October.

What are the genres of 2NE1`s new songs and what are their plans for concerts?
2NE1`s new song, which will be released in early July, will be reggae, an entirely new genre for 2NE1.
The title of the song is ‘Falling in Love’. 2NE1 is certainly trying something new with this new song
but it will sure show all the great stuff that 2NE1 has as the top female K-pop group. For a new twist,
2NE1 is working with new choreographers from overseas. I am sure that the fans will get to love the new title.

Regarding concerts, we do have plans for 2NE1 concerts after the release of the new album in October.
I will fill you up with details as soon as the plans get finalized. I hope that you send your love
and support to 2NE1 and their new songs.

When is the new girl group of YG debuting?

To be continued…see you all tomorrow.

CL is confidently going up against the big boys with ‘나쁜기집애’!

This spring marked the return of many singers in the music industry. Starting from Psy, Cho Yong Pil, Shinhwa, Lee Hyori etc all released new albums. They then proceeded to sweep the top spots on various music charts. On the other hand, the momentum of idols is not as strong as it was in previous years. We are experiencing a drought in idol hits right now as they are ‘buried’ under the brilliant comebacks of the heavyweight singers.

However, there is one idol singer who is gaining sensational popularity after releasing her new song. It is girl group 2NE1′s leader, CL (Real name Lee Chaerin – 22) first solo single ‘나쁜기집애’. As the leader of renowned group 2NE1, who debuted in 2009, CL certainly upheld their reputation for releasing music that is full of personality.

We met with CL in a cafe in Seogyo-dong in Seoul on the 3rd.

“I’ve always thought about doing a solo but now it has actually been released,” she says with a smile. “Actually I wasn’t focusing on preparing for a solo. About a month before, the boss (YG Entertainment representative Yang Hyun Suk) said ‘Let’s do (your) solo record’ and that’s when we started preparing for the solo record. I’m really satisfied to be able to do activities with a song that represents me well (Laughs).”

‘나쁜 기집애’ is a hip-hop song with a slow beat that seems to match CL’s charismatic rap well. It contains an impressive addictive chorus that goes ‘난 나쁜 기집애 (I’m a bad girl)’. The song was created from an idea that came up in a conversation between CL and producer Teddy (Real name Park Hong Jun – 35).

“A while back, when I was joking around with Teddy oppa, the words ‘나쁜 기집애’ came up and there was a good feeling about it. And oppa also said ‘Next time when you have your solo activities, it’d be great if you could do activities with a song that contains the phrase ‘나쁜 기집애 (Bad girl)’. So this song was made as we remembered that time.”

CL who radiates intense charisma on stage is actually very different in daily life.

“I try very hard to separate my lives as CL and Chaerin. You might think that I like to go to clubs often to play but actually, I don’t like to play (Laughs). I’m someone who thinks that only this work that I do (music) is fun. On days when I’m resting, cooking is my hobby. When I’m alone I want to live not as CL but as Chaerin. And of course on stage, I want to be just CL.”

CL, who has kick-started her solo career with the release of this song, also revealed her aspirations as a solo singer. Although she released just one song this time around, she revealed that she would like to record a full album that contains a variety of colours in the future.

“I also like rock and rhythm and blues(R&B) music. Of course the base would still be hip hop, but I hope to be able to show a variety of colours in the future. While I’m still known as “2NE1′s CL” right now it’d be really nice if I could be recognized as just “CL” in the future (Laughs).”

tvN visits '2NE1 Forest' in South Sudan, Africa!

Earlier this year, 2NE1 fans had donated a forest of mango trees to a village in South Sudan, Africa and tvN went to go see how it was doing.

Blackjacks from all around the world donated 1,210 mango trees to the village of Tonj through Tree Planet Korea's 'Star Forest Project'. The mango tree doesn't provide just food - it also provides cool shade for everyone in the heat of the African summer. The villagers were so thankful for 2NE1 and their fans that they were all holding up signs that read 'Thank you 2NE1'.

tvN also went to see the Shinhwa forest, as Shinhwa are currently the first and only group to have 2 forests dedicated to them! Both Shinhwa forests are huge, and of course the forest isn't just a place for people to rest - it's another place for wildlife to call home.

What do you think about this new way of giving to your idols?
